She works with the flow and dynamic within a tanda, as well as to the larger contrasts and shifts from one tanda to the next, and puts the emotional resonance of the music at the heart of her DJ-ing. In addition to DJ-ing once or twice a week at her own events, she is often invited as a guest DJ at various milongas in UK and encuentros across Europe. Her choice of music is traditional. She prefers tangos mainly from the Golden Age, with an occasional tanda from the 20s or 50-60s, or orchestras of the 21st century. Irina likes to vary the mood, pace and overall energy of the dance floor from tanda to tanda, provoking and supporting the interest and enthusiasm of the dancers. She chooses only “music for the feet” – the tangos which fill people with desire to dance. “When I see empty chairs and a full dance floor, I know that my goal as a DJ has been achieved!”
